Esomeprazole is a prescription medicine used to treat certain types of upper gastrointestinal (GI) ulcers (gastric and duodenal ulcers) caused by certain drugs. Esomeprazole belongs to a group of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It works by reducing the amount of acid produced by the gastric and duodenum that occurs in response to a meal.
